Our private client is seeking an experienced caregiver to work in Guernsey Channel Islands on a rotating (2) weeks basis.
The ideal candidate will be experienced in Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body dementia, first aid trained, be friendly, compassionate yet professional always.
About the client;
The client has Parkinson’s disease, mobility is now classed as totally immobile or disabled.
There is also early onset of Lewy Body dementia and has now had Duadopa infusion inserted into his stomach through a stoma and tube pump.
The current Night Time carer; takes care of stoma, cleaning area and noting any changes, flushing tubing, taking the pump off and fitting a new medication cassette to the pump in the morning, giving sedation meds at bedtime, bedding change if required and making the bed ready for the night, and clean clothes
A team player is paramount to the success of this role, as you will be required to work alongside carer(s) currently in place.
Working pattern rotating (2) week basis- Day carer needs help and all-day weekend needs cover
Ideal working hour(s)
8am till 5pm Day care
5pm till 9pm Evening
9pm till 8am Night
Salary: (based on skill set)
Accommodation: – will be an apartment nearby with a car for work purposes (only)
Required day to day duties (but not limited too);
- Care assistance required (24) hours care.
- Most importantly his carer has to have experience with Parkinson’s
- Toileting throughout the day
- Showering
- Dressing
- Close attention all time as sometimes forgets where he is shaving and puts the shaver over his head, or his toothbrush over his face
- Personal care
- Medication to be put into the daily pots from the dose set boxes and the carers give the pills throughout the day
- There is a Sara steady to move the client to and from chairs and to put him onto the massage bed which he likes to use once every day
- Certain amount of physical strength is needed from the carer
- Giving mental stimulation, engaging in sport, travel, general conversation,
- Occasional trips to shops
- Taking to dentist, chiropodist
- Accompanying to doctor appointments and optician check ups
Night time carer help will be for (1) night a week and cover for holidays is required.
Night carer position is wake care, there is comfortable reclining seating, dozing and snoozing is acceptable, there is a monitor in place to watch the client sleeping or for any agitation, also he wears an alarm button to summon.
Requirement(s):
- Must have experience with Parkinson’s
- Possesses polite and friendly manner
- Be discreet, polite
- A team player (working alongside current team of carers)
- Hold an enhanced DBS Report
- Excellent in personal presentation and have a genuine concern for looking after others
- Highly flexible and mobile able to adapt to changing situations
- Completely fluent in spoken and written English
Unless otherwise specified a minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required to receive the advertised rate of pay
