On behalf of our private client based in Chigwell, Essex, we are seeking an experienced, qualified and highly professional Rota Governess to join an established household team.
The family already have a Governess in post and are looking for a second to complete the rota for the academic year ahead. The rota schedule is already in place; the successful candidate will cover all school holidays as part of this rotation. The family also have a nanny and a driver, and the new Governess will work closely alongside the existing team to ensure consistency and continuity for the children.
There are two kids in the family - one currently in Reception and one in Year 1. The family are looking for someone who will bring genuine educational expertise and a warm, engaging approach to supporting the children’s learning and development during their time together.
Schedule: Rota position - covering all school holidays as part of an established rotation
Duties Include (but are not limited to)
- Taking full responsibility for the children’s care, education and daily routine during rota shifts
- Planning and delivering stimulating, age-appropriate educational activities tailored to the children’s individual stages of development
- Supporting and reinforcing the children’s school curriculum during holidays and time away from school
- Organising cultural and educational outings and enrichment activities
- Overseeing the children’s daily routines, including meals, activities and rest times
- Working closely and collaboratively with the existing Governess, nanny and wider household team to ensure a consistent and nurturing environment
- Maintaining clear and open communication with the parents regarding the children’s progress, wellbeing and day-to-day activities
- Accompanying the family on travel when required as part of the rota
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- A relevant degree and/or formal teaching or educational qualification — essential
- Proven experience working as a Governess, teacher or in a comparable educational role with young children
- Experience working with children of Reception and Key Stage 1 age
- A warm, patient and engaging manner with a genuine passion for early childhood education
- A flexible, adaptable approach and the ability to integrate smoothly into an established household team
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Discretion, reliability and complete professionalism
- Availability to begin from July 2025
Salary: £65–70k gross per year DOE
To start: July 2026
Unless otherwise specified a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience is required to receive the advertised rate of pay.
