- Description
Our private clients are seeking a part-time, live-in Housekeeper / Carer for their residence in Northumberland. This is a lovely opportunity for someone who enjoys a peaceful countryside lifestyle and is looking to become part of a small, welcoming rural community.
The household is supported by a long-standing gardener/houseman, and the principals are seeking a calm, compassionate and discreet individual with strong housekeeping skills and a naturally caring nature. While the role is currently centred around housekeeping and household support, it is expected to gradually evolve over the coming years to include more care-focused support for the male principal as the couple get older.
This role would particularly suit someone with a strong private housekeeping background combined with previous care, companion or support experience, who is looking for a long-term, meaningful position within a private home.
Working days & hours:
Approximately 20 hours housekeeping per week, typically Monday – Sunday, 9:00am – 12:00pm, with some flexibility required depending on the principals’ needs + 10/15 hours of companion/care support
Duties will include –
o All housekeeping duties to a high standard, including cleaning and deep cleaning
o Laundry and ironing
o Maintaining the overall upkeep and presentation of the property
o Clearing away breakfast, tidying/resetting the kitchen
o Running errands and occasional driving duties
o Occasional simple, healthy, light family-style cooking
o Full care of the family’s Norfolk Terrier when required, including dog sitting when the principals are away (with the dog remaining in the client home)
o Providing a supportive and reassuring presence within the household
o Gradually assisting with light care and support duties for the principals as needs evolve over time
The ideal candidate will be –
Discreet, reliable and proactive, with a warm, patient and compassionate nature. A genuine dog lover is essential, as the principals travel regularly (including extended periods), and the candidate must be happy to care for the dog as their own during their absence. The successful candidate should be emotionally intelligent, calm and happy living within a quiet countryside environment long term.
Candidates with previous experience in both private housekeeping and care/support roles would be highly desirable. Due to the rural location, a driver with own car is required.
Accommodation:
Newly renovated private 2-bedroom cottage provided (partners and pets may be considered)
Start date:
June 2026
Salary:
£18 gross per hour
Unless otherwise specified, a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience is required to receive the advertised rate of pay.
