Live-in Housekeeper in Oxfordshire

We are seeking an experienced, professional, and highly discreet Live-In Housekeeper near Henley-on-Thames to take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of the household and maintain exceptional standards throughout the property. This is a long-term opportunity for someone who takes genuine pride in their work, enjoys caring for a family home, and is looking to become a valued and trusted member of a private household. This role would suit an experienced housekeeper seeking a stable, long-term position within a welcoming family household. 

The successful candidate will be working as the sole/lead housekeeper, with support staff available on rotation when required, you will be responsible for the overall housekeeping and presentation of a 14-bedroom country house occupied by two adults and three children. The family spends extended periods away during school holidays, and the successful candidate will be responsible for house-sitting and overseeing the property during these times.

Responsibilities

• Daily cleaning and housekeeping to an exceptionally high standard


• Laundry, ironing, garment care, and wardrobe management


• Bed making and changing linens


• Household organisation and inventory management


• Maintaining the presentation and readiness of guest and family areas


• Family-style cooking and meal preparation as required


• Caring for household pets as part of the daily routine, including four dachshunds, two cats, three parrots, and peacocks


• Liaising with contractors, tradespeople, and other household staff


• Receiving deliveries and managing household supplies


• House-sitting and property oversight when the family is away


• Reporting maintenance issues and ensuring the smooth running of the residence

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience working within a private household or similar high-standard environment


• Excellent housekeeping and laundry skills


• Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail


• A professional, discreet, and trustworthy manner


• The ability to work independently and take ownership of the role


• A flexible and proactive approach


• A genuine commitment to maintaining a family home to the highest standards


• Verifiable references from previous employers


• A full driving licence (preferred due to the rural location)

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: £55K per annum, depending on experience

Accommodation: Self-contained live-in accommodation is provided 

Unless otherwise specified a minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required to receive the advertised rate of pay
